What a perfect addition to the newly chandeliered South.   So, Kayla, where will this new store be opening in November of 2011?

OMG, right next to the new Michael Kors store?   Shoes, Shoes, Shoes?  Has anyone told Carrie Bradshaw??? On first floor South near Bloomingdale’s?  Love it!!

What else is new at MOA?

Really?   Well, that’s easily your next story:  the changing definition of retail!!!

Minne Shines in Isles!! September 30, 2011

After her turn at the spa, @LakeCreature moved to Lake of the Isles….and it’s hard to imagine a more beautiful place to end her summer visit to Minneapolis.   Water lilies, purple and yellow flowers, and a bench to sit and chat with Minne in the sunshine!!  Be sure to take a trip to Isles to see Minne before she heads south for the winter; in the meantime, here is Minne in her beautiful setting:

I think the one with the water lilies is my favorite.  Minne is a verrrrrry savvy social media creature; she’s on Twitter at @LakeCreature, on Facebook  https://www.facebook.com/LakeCreature and even has her own website at www.lakecreature.com

So, it’s a beautiful sunny day — need an excuse to visit Lake of the Isles?  Go visit Minne; last I saw her she was in the SouthWest corner of Isles.  But I heard it rumored she is enjoying the lake so much she just might be taking a swim around to check out more sections of Isles!!  That is, if she’s not flirting with @RoyTheJackalope!!

The Nerdery Retro Summer Open House Extravaganza!!! August 4, 2011

The Nerdery is famous in the Twin Cities as a great place to work and play.  So when nerds take time out to fire up the grill and invite the neighborhood over to see the new expanded headquarters, it’s a fun time to say the least.  The retro theme referred to a bunch of games brought out of storage:  what Angry Birds???  For Shareology it broke down into games, shirts and photo booth — and away we go!!

Games:

Given the growth, both past and future, of The Nerdery, resumes were being taken on the spot.  To help spot the networker of your field of choice, nerds were wearing shirts with particularly helpful backs.  Just a few of the shirts that caught Shareology’s eye:

The photo booth immediately caught my eye.  Ya’ll gathered in front of a screen, it took 4 shots, and they appeared in the tiny, tiny printer as postcards.  Oh, yeah, and they were also sent to The Nerdery’s Facebook page!!!

Couple of last thoughts–I think the machine below is circa 1983ish:

One of the many people-friendly aspects of The Nerdery culture is that it is definitely dog-friendly.  There’s even rumors of a cat or two…

Well, there you have it.  Congratulations to The Nerdery for a great introduction to its new space!  For more information, go to:   http://nerdery.com/  or follow them on twitter:  @The_Nerdery

Shareology went to one of the all time great parties this weekend!!  CoCoMSP opened its doors to friends and coworkers to celebrate the collaboration of Project Skyway and CoCo to open a new space for coworking and entrepreneurs in the renovated Grain Exchange in downtown Minneapolis.  Many of you have been at CoCoSt. Paul, located across the street from the St. Paul Depot, and soon to be connection on the Lite Rail Line.  Here’s a look at the repurposed Grain Exchange room in Minneapolis; the glory of it is how much remains of its great history:  (Spring and Winter Wheat:  Yeeesssss! note from former farmer.)

CoFounder Don Ball shows off the new/old space

Looks like superb working space for Shareology!!

Finally, the last shot is of decor in the elevators - those are grain elevators, folks!!

 ,
The fascinating thing about this space is the homage to the old and the creation of the new, including super organized white crisp furniture and the latest in connections to the interwebs.  All in all, great to see old friends and make new ones!  For more on the party, hit #pscocoparty on twitter, follow @CoCoMSP or go to http://cocomsp.com/     Finally, thanks so much to Don and Kyle for inviting me: I had a blast!!

FourSquare and your Home: Security ‘R Us???? June 16, 2011

Shareology has been playing around with foursquare lately.  One of the big surprises has been the amount of residential addresses listed in the Minneapolis area.  At first Shareology was amazed to see a listing for other than a business or a restaurant or a retailer.   Next, her security and privacy concerns kicked in waving red flags.

Last night’s MIMA gathering offered a solution.  Speaker  @AsifRKhan on Location-Based Marketing talked about the home as a location for LBM in a larger context, plus offered a solution to my foursquare concerns.   He suggested that rather than set up a place for a home address, it would be safer to check into one’s neighborhood.  Ah, Neighborhood!!!

So there you have it parents.  Once you were off the hook if you put the computer in the living room and looked over your kids shoulders.  Now you better be sure your basement isn’t a foursquare location.  Informed sources tell me that foursquare will be deleting places like this from the site.  Wonder how many party houses Shareology can check into before that happens?

To follow the conversation from MIMA’s event on location-based marketing follow @mimatweet or @AsifRKhan

Shareology has fallen in love with Minne, the Lake Creature.  It began last summer with rumors of an addition to Lake of the Isles.  Shareology spotted Minne in real life later in the fall at Lake Nokomis.  What really drew Shareology to Minne was that Minne tweeted as @LakeCreature.  Further, Minne has a sweet, helpful online presence.  Thus when spring came and thoughts of Minnesotans moved to summer, Shareology had @KayLoire on the alert for signs of @LakeCreature.  As clues to Minne’s 2011 location began to appear, it struck Shareology that she knew exactly where Minne was.  (Okay, with a tad of assist from google maps…)

Yesterday, photographic evidence was found of Minne, tucked away on the western edge of Brownie Lake.  Photographic evidence was immediately sent via droid to twitter.  Below enjoy more shots of Minne in her return to Minneapolis this summer.  Ya know, the park folks coulda just started content zipping into the twitterverse:  “Come to the Parks!”  Boooooorrrrring!!!  Instead, with the creation of Minne, a legend is born!!!  Below is offered evidence of Minne in her June, 2011 home:

first 2011 sight of Minne, far off in the distance....

picture perfect on Brownie Lake

welcome back, Minne!!

Perhaps you’ll fall in love with Minne too….follow her on twitter at @LakeCreature or at  http://www.lakecreature.com/

QR codes: They’re not just for retail anymore!!! May 20, 2011

What’s a QR code?  It’s those square boxes that look like a crossword puzzle on steroids.  Been noticing QR (quick response) codes everywhere you go?   Shareology was on her way to MIMA this week when she spotted this apartment building sign:

So lately, besides in-store information, I’ve seen QR codes in magazines, newspapers, and my personal fav, on business cards.  I use Barcode Scanner and TagReader as QR code readers on my Droid X and am now decoding messages left and right.   I asked Lisa Foote (@FooteNotes) for her favorite QR code resources:

Interesting article on performance of a Boots QR campaign in UK:

Astounding 4,500% growth in QR code scanning, first quarter 2011:

Article citing these stats w/ additional quotes:

Hope that helps! I’m sure you saw the Pioneer Press article today on QR as well. happy blogging! – Lisa

Thanks, Lisa!!   Well, there it is!!  More than you could possibly want on QR codes!!!  Thanks to Lisa and Julio Ojeda-Zapata at the Pioneer Press for superb resources!!

Where will YOU see your next QR code?

Update July 19, 2011:  USATODAY published a piece on QR codes today which spotted a QR Code on a tombstone in Seattle.  Yep, a tombstone.  Small, quite tasteful, and leading to pictures and a life story of the deceased.
