MNBlogCon13: Images for Memories October 14, 2013

This was my 4th Minnesota Blog Conference, or rather it was Shareology's 4th. Shareology is also 4; it began on July 26, 2009. The old saying is that a picture is worth a thousand words. Not sure I could give you a thousand words today; more to the point you don't need that on a Monday. However, you may be amused by the photos below, not artfully posed, but people caught in the act of having fun:

Yeah, David’s face about sums it up….except for the clothing choices of certain folks….blue jeans were worn and the sky did not fall.

P.S. Kate and Julio were caught this energetic at the END of the day!

Pioneer Press, Marty and Me November 13, 2011

Many thanks to Julio Ojeda-Zapata of the Pioneer Press for his article on “Does ‘getting away from it all’ include your iPhone?”  Special thanks to photographer John Doman for his suggestion that we take the above photo on a bench next to the sculpture of former mayor of Richfield, Marty Hirsch.  Just one of a number of fun, beautiful sculptures within a block radius.   Richfield, home of art:  who knew?

What’s a QR code?  It’s those square boxes that look like a crossword puzzle on steroids.  Been noticing QR (quick response) codes everywhere you go?   Shareology was on her way to MIMA this week when she spotted this apartment building sign:

So lately, besides in-store information, I’ve seen QR codes in magazines, newspapers, and my personal fav, on business cards.  I use Barcode Scanner and TagReader as QR code readers on my Droid X and am now decoding messages left and right.   I asked Lisa Foote (@FooteNotes) for her favorite QR code resources:

Interesting article on performance of a Boots QR campaign in UK:

Astounding 4,500% growth in QR code scanning, first quarter 2011:

Article citing these stats w/ additional quotes:

Hope that helps! I’m sure you saw the Pioneer Press article today on QR as well. happy blogging! – Lisa

Thanks, Lisa!!   Well, there it is!!  More than you could possibly want on QR codes!!!  Thanks to Lisa and Julio Ojeda-Zapata at the Pioneer Press for superb resources!!

Where will YOU see your next QR code?

Update July 19, 2011:  USATODAY published a piece on QR codes today which spotted a QR Code on a tombstone in Seattle.  Yep, a tombstone.  Small, quite tasteful, and leading to pictures and a life story of the deceased.

Microsoft Store #6 opens at Mall of America!! November 7, 2010

DECEMBER 13 UPDATE:

Microsoft’s first five stores are at Scottsdale, Arizona, Mission Viejo and San Diego, California, Lone Tree, Colorado and Oakbrook, Illinois.  Store #7 is now open in Bellevue, Washington.

The games have begun!!  On November 6, 2010, Microsoft opened its 6th store in Bloomington, MN at Mall of America.   Store opening was announced for 9 am; by Shareology’s reckoning, the actual doors opened at 9:49 am.  Below is a highly edited vision of Saturday morning:

Check out the guy in line in the black tee-shirt......

yep, that would be an Apple on that tee....

the next door neighbor at MOA? yep, again: Apple....

Shareology's been waiting for this day since June 23...

when she broke news of the new neighbors-to-be in Mall of America 1st floor South…

1st guests in line: guaranteed a spot at Kelly Clarkson!

getting those tickets to an in store autograph signing!

Shareology hung out on the 2nd floor overlooking the Microsoft 1st floor store because the view on 1st floor was a tad obscured.  Guess who else was hangin’ on 2nd?   Besides other photog types, Shareology was joined by three imports from Redmond, Washington!

joined by CIO for Microsoft Stores ....

big checks going to local charities....

the red ribbon is cut, the store is revealed....

Hey, besides product, there are MS staffers, ready to help!!!

OKay, only 4 more pics to go (imagine lots of M-I-C-R-O-S-O-F-T yelling from the cheerleaders in Microsoft colors, and the cheerleaders in white go-go boots, gobs of lines winding around 1st South, the sight of Julio Ojeda-Zapata taking pics for the Pioneer Press, and my fav:  the shark from Underwater World navigating the edge of the crowd.   It was that kinda morning.)

the first gift bags exit the store...

nothing like playing games in front of a biiiiig camera....

Shareology was found out in Nickelodeon Universe, dancing to Poker Face in a pop-up store featuring Kinect for XBox 360…..more on that (yes, and photos..) later this week…. (Smart move, opening a pop-up store in Nickelodeon Universe!!)

Before you head to 162 South Avenue at Mall of America to visit Microsoft and their neighbor across the hall, Apple — let’s take one more look at some folks who had a real great morning:
