Shareology

The Social Network — and so much more….. September 29, 2010

Shareology is headed towards her second viewing tonight of The Social Network.   (Thank you, Social Media Breakfast Minneapolis St. Paul for the invitations to the previews!)

My first observation after the first viewing was about the comments of the PR flack before the movie.  “If you like this movie, call all your friends!”  Really?  Call your friends?  About a movie based on Facebook???  Really??  No status updates?  No tweets?  Call?  Really?  Apparently no one told her no one is using their smart phones for telephoning these days.

My second reaction was gratefulness:  so glad to be in the land of Minnesota Nice!  Because those Harvard boys play nasty!!

Upon reflection, this is a movie about so much more than the founding of Facebook.  I walked out of the first preview wondering what is truth and what is fiction.  Luckily the October Vanity Fair landed in my mailbox the next day and gave me an update on Sean Parker, played  by Justin Timberlake in the movie.  Recently, my W landed with an article on the screenwriter Aaron Sorkin.  (Sorkin, late of the West Wing and Studio 60, goes a long way towards how explaining how quickly the movie gets off to a blistering start.)

Ultimately it is a movie about trust, friendship, betrayal and loneliness.  Which explains why Shareology will be at preview two tonight at Mall of America.

Galleria Fall Update: Guess who’s coming soon!! September 23, 2010

Shareology has not been in Galleria in Edina, Minnesota in ages — ah, for the days of excitement leading up to the Louis Vuitton opening!!  Frankly, rain (monsoon!!!) drove her inside and what did she discover?   A hot new shop soon to open, black and white all over and the perfect LBD!

Let’s start with the new shop:  Eileen Fisher is coming to Galleria!!   Shareology is not a big designer label consumer; however, she has two Eileen Fischer jackets she loooooves.   Look what Shareology found one rainy Edina day:

Eileen Fisher coming to Galleria!

Next fall trend?   Black and white, more black and white:  Halston would be so proud!  Although he liked a little red with his black and white.

BCBGMAXAZRIA rocks black and white for Fall!

What really stopped Shareology in her tracks was the perfect LBD.  Now Arafina is a regular stop; the windows are perfect for dreaming:

OMG: what’s that glowing in the window?  Can it be?  The perfect LBD!!!

between the two Nicole Millers: closer!!

Alice + Olivia .... ahhhhh.......

the perfect LBD..............

MIMA held their fall social at Target Field in Minneapolis last week.  Shareology had never been, so she was verrrrrry excited.  Plus, she discovered a secret parking place that works as long as the Twins aren’t in town.  (OK, it worked for Alphabet Bash and it worked last week at MIMA.)   She just carefully comes in off 394 and heads for Garage B … just a few feet inside, people are leaving, and she gets a space right away.  At MIMA, Shareology parked, walked 100 feet — and discovered herself at the gateway to Target Plaza –and  Kirby!!!!!

Just a few feet from Parking in garage B.......

Wow: this is what's outside Garage B??? Hi, Kirby!!

Giant bats with ivy: love it!!

Twins outta town......

Ah, MIMA food...........

Diane and Ivan keep Shareology company

the highlight of the evening: Beatboxing Ben!!

Ben is the first guy who makes Shareology think she might need to get into video: a still photo can’t do justice to Ben and his music!!!  way cool!!

drink? food? drink? food? drink....

and now a word from our MIMA Board.....

did I mention @GistrMN was working the room?

Check out www.gistr.com for information on what’s going on in the Twin Cities for marketing communication events.  There were ten events last week alone!!

Mall of America: Microsoft and More! Fall, 2010 September 14, 2010

Shareology took an educational detour past one of the mobile phone stores this lovely September day at Mall of America.  Turns out there is much more than mobile phones going on at MOA, including the white elephant turning logoland next to Legoland:

Yep, they must be serious: logos have emerged!!

The Microsoft build space on 1st floor South went from the past bright acres of white to the logoland you see above.  More views of the vast retail space about to open this fall (dare we guess October?).

view of Microsoft build towards Nickelodeon Universe

Speaking of Legoland, Microsoft’s neighbor looks like it too is under construction.  In fact, if my premed nephew was still into his lego collection, he could build the entire new store out of legos!!

now that's one empty LegoLand!!

So what else is new and coming at Mall of America???

LuLuLemon is building!!

A brand new concept, The Art of Shaving, is newly open in that round glassy space in the middle of 1st floor West:  (yep, Andy of Mayberry would feel right at home…)

The Art of Shaving

Only 2 more items  but they are hot, hot, hot!!

1.  Hugo Boss is open!!

even Shareology wants to shop at Hugo Boss!!

For this final item, alas Shareology was at MOA about seven hours too early…..but for the rest of you:   at 7 pm on Tuesday, September 14 was:  (alas, Shareology couldn’t make it work!!!)

That’s all Folks!!  Happy fall from Shareology!!

Minnesota Blogger Conference: 140 bloggers and one dejected Gopher fan September 12, 2010

Shareology was thrilled to be at the very first Minnesota Blogger Conference held September 11, 2010 at CoCo St. Paul.  Great info, great speakers, great networking.

A few glimpses:  (group photo below courtesy @MarketingMamaMN   aka  Missy !)

No, it's not a war zone: It's 4th Street.....

Can you spot Shareology above?   Here’s a hint — she’s drawn to the color orange lately.

James Lileks kickstarts the opening panel

writers deep in thought during Kate Hopper's session

can you name this iPad winning blogger?

Patrick, Julio and Leo Laporte

Shareology gets asked a lot what to use for a beginning blogger.  Given the learning curve on wordpress, I’ve been known to suggest blogger or blogspot.  After sitting in on Julio Ojeda-Zapata’s session, I now know that Posterous, Tumblr and SquareSpace are key platforms.

Can bloggers and PR people co-exist?

Shareology's very favorite presenters...

Greg Swan and Tony Saucier add a certain j’ne sais quoi as only they can do…..

Finally, towards the final presentation, a sad, dejected figure appeared at the back of the room.  It appears the Gophers had the audacity to not win to a team from (horror upon horrors!) South Dakota..let’s all be extra kind to @MNHeadhunter in the next few days….

did I mention Shareology is from....South Dakota?

Back from the preview of the fb movie, The Social Network September 10, 2010

The deepest impression The Social Network left with me is my profound gratitude to the Minneapolis St. Paul social media community for having grown up. Perhaps flyover land never went through the culture seen in this movie. Watching sections of the movie where the lawyers debated who owned what and who would shaft whom to get what they wanted: I kept waiting for Michael Douglas to stroll over from Wall Street!! Thank you to the social media community in Minneapolis St. Paul for being achieving, results-oriented folks who can grow without bringing out the knives.

For another take on the movie, head to  http://t.co/dpHXZ4p

Plus:   check out the October Vanity Fair for a superb update on Sean Parker!  Everything the movie didn’t tell you!
